Former Nasa Employee and Deacon Jailed for Stealing $300K from Church | AT2W

Former NASA worker and deacon stole money from church

Alvin Danielle Allen, 42 was a former deacon and board member at Lancaster Baptist Church. He has plead guilty plea for pocketing cash offerings which were collected during church services, say officials.

The money Allen stole occurred over a course of years until 2009 when he was caught on a hidden surveillance camera. The IRS stated he was seen stashing the money in his clothes on videotape.

Allen is being accused of stealing nearly $300,000 from the church from 2004 through 2008. The government incurred a tax loss of nearly $90,000 for his failure to report is true earnings and income over the years.

Allen apologized "for my actions and my sin." He told the judge, "I wasn't doing the right thing and I needed to be corrected."
The judge stated there would have not been a federal issue here if he had reported his earnings correctly.
“Whether he stole it or earned it, he’s supposed to declare it,” the judge said. “If you are not accurate in your tax return, there will be a penalty to pay — not only the money but with prison time.”Along with the federal prison sentence, Judge King has also ordered the former deacon to pay restitution to the IRS and serve one year under supervised release following his release.
